1) Cervical Cancer
Problem
Cervical cancer kills 300,000 women every year, with 90% of deaths in low- and middle-income countries.
In Tanzania, it is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women.
HPV vaccination coverage remains limited, and screening is not widely accessible.
McF Approach
- Expand HPV vaccination campaigns for school-age girls.
- Introduce HPV testing and affordable screening methods at health centers.
- Provide portable thermal ablation or LEEP treatment for pre-cancerous lesions.
- Integrate screening into family planning, ANC, HIV, and outpatient services.

2) Diabetes & Hypertension
Problem
An estimated 12 million adults in sub-Saharan Africa have diabetes, many undiagnosed. Hypertension affects over 30% of adults in Tanzania, with low levels of diagnosis and treatment. Patients often face catastrophic costs due to stock-outs and reliance on private pharmacies.
McF Approach
- Train primary care workers to screen and manage hypertension and diabetes.
- Provide simple treatment protocols, lifestyle counseling, and patient education.
- Improve supply chains to ensure availability of affordable medicines and diagnostics.
- Support follow-up through registers, reminder systems, and community outreach.
